JENTERANEWS.com – Heavy rain that hit parts of South Sukabumi caused the collapse of the Cilimus Elementary School building in Nangerang Village, Jampangtengah District, Sukabumi Regency. On Saturday, June 29, 2024, at around 9:00 PM.
Dadi Supardi, the District Disaster Management Officer (P2BK) of Jampang Tengah, said that besides the heavy rain with high intensity and long duration, the deteriorated condition of the school building due to its age also contributed to the collapse of the Cilimus Elementary School building.
“Although there were no casualties, the estimated losses amount to hundreds of millions and will have an impact on the teaching and learning process because the entire roof of the school building is damaged due to the collapse,” said Dadi.
The four classrooms of Cilimus Elementary School can no longer be used for teaching and learning activities. All the tiles and wooden frames that support the roof are scattered around the building.
“Not only that, other building materials, such as boards, also fell and were destroyed on the ground floor of the classrooms. Cables were also hanging on several sides of the building,” he explained.
P2BK Jampang Tengah added that the heavy rain that occurred on Saturday (29/6/2024) from noon until night caused several disasters in Jampang Tengah District.
“In addition to the collapse of the Cilimus Elementary School building, one house owned by U Suherman (M), 48 years old, inhabited by 1 family with 5 people, suffered moderate damage due to being hit by a coconut tree.
“Furthermore, the bridge over the Cikurutug River connecting Cisaat Village RT 28/05 with Cilimus Village RT 29/05 was cut off due to flash floods,” he concluded.(*)
